The Cathedral of the Holy Family in Exile (Ukrainian: УКРАЇНСЬКА КАТОЛИЦЬКА КАТЕДРА "ПРЕСВ. СКИТАЛЬЧОЇ РОДИНИ" y Лондоні, Апостольський екзархат у Великобританії) is the cathedral of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Apostolic Exarchate in Great Britain. [1] Though independent from the authority of the Latin Rite hierarchy in England and Wales, and instead under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Catholic apostolic exarch (currently vacant), territorially, the cathedral is considered to be part of the Marylebone deanery of the Latin Rite Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster.[2]
It is the named for the Holy Family, during their flight into Egypt. It is located at Duke Street (off Oxford Street), Mayfair, London, England. The building is temporarily closed to worshippers following the collapse of part of the ceiling on 13 August 2007.[3] The icon screen created by a Ukrainian monk, Juvenalij Mokrytsky, was not affected by the ceiling's collapse. [4]
The building it occupies was designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1891 for occupation by the Congregational King's Weigh House. They sold it to the Catholic Church in 1967.
